Our mission is to provide the BUA community with high quality and efficient service to develop and maintain academic programs, registration, records, graduation, and other enrollments information. We are committed to ensuring integrity, professionalism, respect, and efficiency in our work.
The Office of the Registrar is in charge of registration, course adds/drops, transcripts, the graduation application process, commencement ceremonies, and other enrollment issues.
Independent Student Form
This form is to be used for students registering for an independent study in any upcoming semester. Please complete the form, filling in all required fields. Once completed, the instructor of the Independent Study will contact the Registrar’s office verifying that you are permitted to register for an Independent Study.
Students or alumni who desire an official transcript must present an Official Transcript Request Form to the Registrar’s Office, giving notice of at least one week. Please note that federal law requires that all requests must bear the signature of the student, so e-mail requests can be honored only if it has hand written signature.
Change Program of Study
If a student decides to transfer from one school to another, (e.g., business to Spanish), the student will be need to complete the Program Change Form and submit it to the Registrar’s Office.
Drop-Add- Withdrawal Form
Information regarding change of schedule (Drop/Add/Withdrew) is provided in the request form. Make sure to check the dates, deadlines, and six drop policy before making the change.
Six Drop Policy
In accordance with Texas Education Code, 51.907, undergraduate students who first entered college as entering freshmen fall 2007 or later may not drop more than a total of six courses during their undergraduate career.

An enrollment verification letter confirms the enrollment status of a student. Verification requests can be made by submitting the Enrollment Verification Request Form.
Emergency Alert Notification Form
Students must have this form filled out and filed with the Registers Office in order to recieve emergency notifications (ex. bad weather alert, fire alert, suspicious activity alert, campus closed alert…). These notifications are extremely important.
Student Confidentiality (FERPA)
Federal and a state law provide for the review and disclosure of student educational records. Students may have any or all directory information withheld by notifying the University in writing. Request for nondisclosure will be honored by the University until such time that the student grants permission, in writing, to release the information. Diploma and Graduation
Upon approval that you are eligible for graduation you must fill the “Graduation Application” to receive graduation information and related materials. For questions or information related to eligibility, consult with the Registrar.
Classification of Students
Students are classified according to the number of hours of college credit they have earned. Classifications are as follows:

|Sophomores||30 – 59 earned hours|
|Juniors||60 – 89 earned hours|
|Seniors||90 or more earned hours|
|Special Students||Students who hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.|
Courses are numbered to show both the collegiate level at which they are offered and the hour value of the course. The first digit shows the level, and the second digit shows the credit hours. The last two digits are departmental designations. For example, LEAD 1300 shows that the course is taught at the freshman level and carries three hours of credit per semester. Students may obtain their grades using Student Portal at CAMS. Students requiring an official paper copy of their grades may request a transcript from the Office of the Registrar.
BUA uses a 4.0 system. The following grades are used to designate achievement in coursework. Their corresponding grade values and points are indicated.
The grade point average (GPA) is computed by dividing the total grade points earned by the total hours attempted. The Cumulative Grade Point Average is calculated using all coursework (excluding repeated courses) attempted. The current semester grade point average is calculated using only coursework attempted within a specific semester. See the BUA catalog for additional information.
CLEP offers 33 exams in five subject areas, covering material taught in courses that you may generally take in your first two years of college. Most CLEP exams are designed to correspond to one-semester courses, although some correspond to full-year or two-year courses. Exams are approximately 90 minutes long, with the exception of College Composition, which is 120 minutes. Exams contain mainly multiple-choice questions. College Composition and a few other exams contain other types of questions and essays.
BUA does not offer CLEP examination but you can take those exams at any community college. Students may seek college credit by satisfactorily completing the Advanced Placement (AP) Examination or the College Level Examinations Program (CLEP) of the College Entrance Examination Board for the subject area in which credit is sought. Credits by examination obtained by students transferring to the University will be accepted only if the examinations and resulting scores meet specified requirements.
Students may transfer up to 42 semester hours of credit earned by examination. Grade points are not earned through credit by examination; credits earned by examination will be assigned a grade of “CR” and treated as transfer credits.

At the end of each regular semester, the University recognizes full-time students who demonstrate superior academic achievement by naming them to the President‘s and Dean’s Lists. To qualify for these honors students must attain a 4.0 GPA for the President’s List and a 3.50 – 3.99 GPA for the Dean’s List.
