Program Personalities
Rev. Dennis Carl Jones/Featured Preacher
-Pastor of Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church in Houston since 1998. His ministry addresses the needs of the community both spiritually and physically through a wide range of programs including specific ministries to couples, young adults and singles. The internationally-sought revivalist has served as the Executive Secretary/Treasurer and Tent Revival Coordinator for the Evangelical Board of the National Baptist Convention of America, Inc., and as a board member of the Baptist World Alliance.
Dr. Cleophus LaRue/Workshop Leader
-Princeton Theological Seminary professor, received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from Baylor University and his M.Div. and Ph.D. degrees from Princeton Seminary. He specializes in the theory and method of African American preaching and worship. An ordained minister in the National Baptist Convention of America, LaRue is the former pastor of two churches in Texas as well as the former interim pastor of churches in Harlem and Jamaica Queens, New York. He is a frequent speaker at churches, seminaries, and conferences throughout the country and is a member of the Academy of Homiletics. He is the author of seven books.
Dr. Samuel J. Gilbert Sr/Banquet Speaker
-Pastor Emeritus of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Houston where he served for 36 years, 1964-2000 and led it to remarkable growth and Christian influence. Proclaiming the Word has carried him to more than 30 countries and across the United States, including delivering the keynote sermon at the National Missionary Baptist Convention of America. He is past general secretary of National Baptist Convention of America, Inc.
