Baptist University of the Americas to
Inaugurate René Maciel as Seventh President 

Newly appointed President René Maciel brings experience from
Baylor University to build San Antonio's growing Hispanic-serving university
 

WHAT: Baptist University of the Américas will host an inauguration and installation service for its seventh president, René Maciel, on September 28 at First Mexican Baptist Church beginning at 10:30 a.m. Maciel most recently served as Assistant Dean of George W. Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University and brings over 20 years of higher education administration experience to the growing south San Antonio theological university. Baptist University of the Américas is a baccalaureate degree-granting theological university with a cross-cultural focus, the only federally recognized Hispanic-serving institution among Baptists.
In 2007, Baptist University of the Américas celebrates sixty years of service since its beginnings as the Mexican Baptist Bible Institute that first met in the Joudy House in downtown San Antonio. Known once as a seminary, the University now prepares students for humanity-serving careers in the church, as well as social service agencies, non-profits, and other bi-professional careers for those with a commitment to ministry and community service.
