“The art of evaluation is far from perfect, but it is a feasible art and can stimulate curiosity, foster self-consciousness, and strengthen education...”
Introduction
Institutional Effectiveness at Baptist University of the Américas is much more than just a means of satisfying the expectations of the many regulatory agencies associated with the institution. The University’s institutional effectiveness process is the embodiment of its commitment to the continuous quality improvement of all aspects associated with meeting its vision, mission, goals, and objectives. That commitment is driven by the simple fact that students demand and deserve no less. They should and do expect the Board of Trustees, administration, faculty, and staff to devote themselves—seriously, systematically, and continuously—to the task of providing high quality educational programs and services.
This commitment to continuous quality improvement is ongoing, broad-based, and ingrained within the university culture. The University’s institutional effectiveness efforts involve all personnel in responding to the following questions. Is the University operating according to its vision, mission, goals, and objectives? Is the university accomplishing what it set out to accomplish? What can the university do to improve the quality of education and services provided to students? Have efforts to improve brought about meaningful and positive changes within the institution?
The goal is to integrate planning, evaluation, and reporting processes into a comprehensive program of institutional effectiveness that not only encompasses teaching and learning but also the array of administrative, budgetary, and support services which sustain the core activities of the university. We must demonstrate, and we must prove, that our institutional mission is not just an empty promise. We must show solid and verifiable evidence that we are indeed fulfilling our mission and that the university is actively engaged in an ongoing quest for quality. Every component of the institution must demonstrate planning, evaluation, and the use of findings to improve programs and services.
