
Dr. Gabriel Cortés serves as the Chief of Staff at BUA.
He was born and raised in Puerto Rico. In 1991 he graduated from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico with a Bachelor’s Degree in Airway Science Management. In 1995 he moved to Texas to earn a Masters Degree in Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, where he also served as a pastor for 8 ½ years.
Soon after, he was called to San Antonio to serve as Executive Assistant to the President at Baptist University of the Américas for 4 years, and in August of 2008 he began his service as Hispanic Ministries Strategist for the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Besides serving in this role, during his 10 years at the BGCT, he also served as Director of the Hispanic Education Initiative and as Congreso Coordinator. In December of 2017, Bro. Gabriel earned a Doctor of Ministry from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, MO. Dr. Cortés currently serves as Chief of Staff at Baptist University of the Américas. He’s been married to María for 23 years and has two sons: Esteban (21) and Andrés (19).
