Dr. Compean-García is the Director of the ESL Language Training Program and the University Writing Center at Baptist University of the Americas. She was a former Associate Professor and Pioneer of the ESL and Bilingual Education Program at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. Dr. Compean-Garcia has taught in the public schools and in higher education for 29 years.
She has published articles in the Journal of Border Education Research, Journal for Bilingual Education Research & Instruction of the Texas Association of Bilingual Educators, the Texas Child Care Quarterly Journal of Early Years, and the Texas Education Review Journal: The University of Texas in Austin. She has served as the San Antonio Chapter Chair for the Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas, (HWNT) San Antonio Chapter, non- profit organization that has helped raise over $30,000.00 in scholarships for San Antonio Latina students.
In 2011 Dr. Compean-García and her sister Nora Compean founded the Anna Maria Compean Ph.D. Scholarship awarded to Latina students who are in need of financial tuition assistance. In 2015, Dr. Compean- García was appointed Honorary Professor at Universidad de Malaga, Spain and was invited to teach at UMA in the Fall 2015. She is the author of the Better Together (2014), Inspirational Stories About Relationship Building, Generosity and Hope book, where she recounts her educational experiences growing up as an English Language Learner in Texas.
She is married to Dr. Samuel S. García, an educational consultant and adjunct professor at BUA & A&M University and is Seth’s mom! Nancy is the Director for both the ESL Language Training Program and the University Writing Center at Baptist University of the Américas. She and her family reside in San Antonio, Texas.
